Patrizio M. CIVILI
Mr. Civili has over 35 years of experience within the United Nations system and served under 5 successive UN Secretaries General. From 1998 to 2007 he was Assistant Secretary General for Policy Coordination and Interagency Affairs in the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs, serving simultaneously as Secretary of the Chief Executives' Board (CEB) which operates under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary General and comprises the Executive Heads of all UN specialized agencies. Mr. Civili held a number of other positions in the organization, including coordinator of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee(CDCC) work program at the Port of Spain office of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean(ECLAC), senior adviser on policy coordination and institutional affairs in the Office of the Director General for Development and International Economic Cooperation, Chief of the Office of the Undersecretary General for Economic and Social Affairs in New York, Senior Member of the Cabinet of the Secretary General of UNCTAD and Director for Program Support and Management Services at the UNCTAD Headquarters in Geneva, and Director in the cabinets of Secretaries General Boutros Boutros Ghali and Kofi Annan.
Mr. Civili holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Rome, with a focus in Comparative Constitutional Law, and a Master of Art degree in Comparative Government from the University of Washington in Seattle. He attended also Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington and the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, Italy.
